Review of The Manners Minder for Dogs Program it to give your dog treats even when you're not home |

What a great concept: an electronic dog training aid that uses all positive reinforcement. Usually a remote training device means a remote correction such as electronic 'shock' collars. Premier Manners Minder is a treat dispenser activated by remote control. Your dog hears a beep which means a treat has been dispensed. The device works up to 100-feet from your dog (we didn't verify but it worked while we were in the bedroom and the dog was in the bedroom) and even through walls. You can be out of sight and still be training your dog! I especially like the ability to have it dispense a treat on a set schedule. That makes it ideal for dogs with separation anxiety who are home alone or very active dogs that you want to quiet while you're having company or working at home. You don't have to know anything about training. There's a DVD that explains how to use it and includes five games you can play with your dog while teaching him commands such as lie down and stay. Please note that you must, however, watch the DVD as there is scientific progression in how to teach your dog with the Minder. If you just try pushing buttons, you'll defeat the design. This device was invented by Dr. Sophia Yin, a veterinarian behaviorist at the University of California at Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine. She's also a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle and on the executive board of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. She knows what she's doing. A friend and I used it teach her dog to get in his bed at the sound the beep. My friend is not mobile and having a training device that lets her train her dog while she is sitting is a great help. You can buy
additional remotes if you want to keep one in several rooms. One device
would not work well with multiple dogs, however. It's about $100 but well
made. Batteries are not included. Premier
